Comets Go Off Against Brownstown

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Stew-Stras erupted for 86 points in a score fest against the home Brownstown Bombers on Tuesday, 86-63.

They knew they would have to score points to beat Brownstown and they did. The Comets opened with a 22-12 run, then held their own in the 2nd with a 19-18 blow-for-blow battle. Stew-Stras then struck with a 29 point 3rd to up their lead to 25 points heading into the 4th. They held serve again late and notched the uptempo win.

Brandon Helmuth scored 8 of his 22 in the 1st with two treys, eight more point in the 2nd with 6-of-8 at the line, and two more treys in the 3rd. He didn’t even score in the 4th.

Justin Fulk had eight in the 1st period 22-point run and six points in the 3rd period 29-point run. Jason Becker led the 3rd period run with 10 of his 13 points. He converted two 3-point plays and had two more buckets. He converted another 3-point play in the 4th.

    Defending class 1A champion Central A&M sent 12 total athletes to the meet this season, and started this years’ girls track meet off well by winning 6 events individually and 1 team race.
