SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Shelbyville volleyball finished their regular season just one win from a 20-win season, finishing 19-13, as a result of play at the Mt. Pulaski pre-postseason tourney on Saturday. Shebyville dropped the first three matches in pool play, then won the crossover match and the 5th place match to end on a higher note.
Shelbyville lost to Bloomington, 19-25, 16-25, lost to Edwards County, 25-27, 17-25, and lost to Illini Central, 18-25, 12-25.
This is always a tough tournament and a great way to prepare for the regional,” said Ram coach Lisa Peifer. “We actually played well most of the day with the exception of the Illini Central match. We just couldn’t get anything going consistently. We allowed ourselves to get out-hustled and out talked. I was hoping to get another shot at them and we did in the 5th place match.”
In the crossover match, they played Roxana and buried them, 25-14, 25-13.
“Against Roxana, we kind of found a little comfort zone with the line-up,” Coach Peifer said. “We had to pull Sammy due to an ankle injury and both Madison Boone and Rachel Fox did a great job. We played much better as the match went on and it carried into the Illini Central game.”
The Rams then got to the 5th place game in a rematch against Illini Central. The Rams lost game 1, 17-25, then stormed back 25-23, 25-16.
“I hope we learned a few things before (regional) and can keep up the hard aggressive play against T’town.”
Several Ram players made key contributions to their effort at Mt. Pulaski.
Setter Maggie Bosgraaf recorded a triple-double with a team-high 50 points, dishing 62 assists, and co-leading the team on defense with 17 digs. Brandy Smith had a quadruple-double with 49 points, a team-high 11 aces, 22 kills, 13 digs, and nine blocks.
Brooke Eisenbarth had a triple-double, serving 27 points with four aces, swinging for a team-high 37 kills, and co-leading the team with 17 digs. Sophomore Madison Boone had a quadruple-double with 27 points, 21 kills, 13 digs, and a team-high 11 blocks. Taylor Wilcox just missed a triple-double with 35 points, eight aces, and nine kills.
