Shelbyville beat Central A&M; on Thursday and were looking for back-to-back wins on successive nights, but it wasn't in the cards, as the Warrensburg Cards dealt the Rams a 5-point road loss, 49-44.
Former leading scorer Cody Boarman played in his second game after coming back early from a broken foot. He was the second scorer for Shelby in this game with 11 points, as Caine Cloe led the Rams with 14 points. Cloe connected on a foursome of 3-pointers, while Boarman recorded a trey hat trick, to no avail. JV post player Cody Langan stepped up to have his best game of the season, also scoring 11 points for the Rams.
The difference in this game was free throws. Shelby held a 6-point advantage from the floor, 37-31, fueled by a 12-point advantage from the arc. However, Warrensburg shot 26 free throws to Shelby's 13. Warrensburg made 18-of-26 and Shelby just 7-of-13, for an 11-point Cardinal advantage at the line and an overall 5-point margin of victory.
Shelbyville plays at St. Teresa Tuesday, then hosts Tolono for the Rams Senior Night. Shelbyville will then host the Shelbyville 2A Regional.
