Trinity 7th, 8th Combined 31-2

Stewardson Trinity Cardinals settled for a split at Sacred Heart on Monday, then knocked off rival St. Peter on Tuesday.

Monday at Sacred Heart, Trinity 7th was defeated in 3 sets, 25-10, 22-25, 19-25. In the 8th grade match, Trinity won in 3 intense sets, 23-25, 25-10, 27-25. Tuesday hosting St. Peter, Trinity won the 7th grade match, 25-18, 25-12, and defeated St. Peter in the 8th grade match 25-16, 25-21.

"The competition level was awesome and both sides did their part," said coach Ronda Schlechte. "It was fun and intense at the same time. Sacred Heart has really improved since we played them in January. I’m thankful they called us with an opening in their schedule."

"St. Peter always has competition for us and this time was no different," Coach Schlechte said.

Trinity will host Mattoon St. John’s on March 5 at 5:30 for their last home game of the season. Trinity 8th is now 16-0 and 7th is 15-2.

    High schools from over the state of Illinois made their way down for the first day of the girls state track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

    Defending class 1A champion Central A&M sent 12 total athletes to the meet this season, and started this years’ girls track meet off well by winning 6 events individually and 1 team race.
