Cowden-Herrick Splits With Teutopolis

Cowden-Herrick Junior High volleyball opened their season against Teutopolis, usually daunting, but this time they came away with a split. The Hornet 7th grade won, 25-19, 25-15, while the Hornet 8th grade lost, 25-17, 25-13.

"I'm very pleased with their first game," said the Hornet 7th coach. "They will need to continue working on communication skills and transitions."

Ariel Heiserman was a double-digit performer, serving up 13 points and a team-high four aces. She also led the team with three assists and had one of the team's two digs. Near double-digit performers Haven Lorton and Hannah Wehrle also were key players. Lorton and Wehrle had nine points each, and three and two aces, respectively. Lorton was also the chief net hteat, scoring four kills and digging the other ball for the Hornet defense.

"Communication played a large part in this loss. The team will be working on playing their positions and trusting their teammates to do their part."

Alicia Adams led the Hornets in the loss with seven points and four aces. Three other Hornets served up five points each, Bailey Rueff, Maria Brown, and Destiny Pygott. Unfortunately, the Hornets didn't score much at the net. The only got one kill from Pygott.

Cowden-Herrick 7th (1-0) and 8th (0-1) play Thursday at Brownstown at 6:15 p.m., then play Monday at Trinity Lutheran at 4:00 p.m.
