SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Shelbyville Moulton volleyball started the season on Tuesday taking on Vandalia and coming away with a sweep. Shelby 7th won a barn-burner, 27-25, 23-25, 25-22, while the state-qualifying Shelby 8th, won in a romp, 25-9, 25-7.
“The match was a definite nail-biter,” said Ram 7th coach Brittany Pierce. “ It gave these girls a chance to work out their first game jitters. The girls were very nervous and I think it showed. We struggled to know where we were going and just need a little more work on some things. I know these girls can get it. They have some talent...they just need to relax and have fun. I know they can get it!”
The Rams 7th delivered 24 aces in the marathon. 7th

The Shelby 8th was well-oiled and ready to rock. Vandy had no shot.
“This was a good first game for us,” said Ram 8th coach Lisa Peifer. “We played under control all night and never let up. Although there wasn’t a lot of game play, we attempted to do the right things when we did get the ball. Service line was really good and we kept them on the defense, which was very good. I’m happy to get this first one out of the way and happy with our play.”
Calin Wilson led the team in this lopsided affair. She served up 17 points, including five of the 19 Ram aces. She also had a team-high two kills and led the defense with eight digs. Jacque Johnston followed with 11 points, a team-high seven aces and a kill. Sydney Miller also swung for two kills and Caylee Wheeler had all six assists.
