SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
The Shelbyville Lakers advance six swimmers from the CSIC Conference meet on Saturday to the All-Star Meet in Milstadt in two weeks. Braxton Vice, Breanna Vice, McKenna Kull, Gabrielle Spain, Madison Fox, and Karac Donald. They earned their spot by placing 1st-6th at the Conference Meet.
“What a day!” said Shelbyville Laker swimming coach Nicole Hendry. “Over 500 kids were in attendance at the CISC conference meet.”
Just about every swimmer from Shelbyville had time drops at this meet. Gabrielle Spain had a 10.21 drop in her 100 IM, Rheannah Donald dropped nearly 7 seconds in the 50 free, Ailey Mitchell dropped 8.39 in her 50 Backstroke, and Kara Clearwater dropped 16 seconds in the 50 breast.
Gabrielle Spain (8) and McKenna Kull (11) boasted 1st place finishes in the conference meet. Spain had three 1sts and Kull had a 1st and two 3rds.
Spain won three events, getting personal records in each event, and scoring 60 team points for the Lakers. She won the Girls 8&Under 100-meter Individual Medley (1:50.99) as she dropped over 10 seconds from her time. Spain also won the Girls 8&Under 25-meter Freestyle with a time of 20.59 seconds, besting her PR by .21 seconds. She won the Girls 8&Under 25-meter Butterfly (23.25), dropping 2.78 seconds off her time for another 20 points.
Kull won her final race of the day, beating the field in the Girls 11-12 50-meter Backstroke (34.93), with a new PR by 1.34 seconds. Kull also had a PR by .95 seconds when she placed 3rd in the Girls 11-12 50-meter Butterfly (34.29). Kull had a 3rd place finish in the Girls 11-12 100-meter IM (1:16.83).
Braxton Vice (12) earned a trip to Milstadt by placing 4th in the Boys 11-12 50-meter Breaststroke (44.51) for 15 points, a 1.58 second improvement in his PR. Karac Donald (12) will also go to Milstadt by virtue of his 5th place finish in the Boys 11-12 50-meter Butterfly (42.28) a , a new PR by .24 seconds. Madison Fox (13) is also headed to the All-Star Meet because of a 5th place. She placed in the Girls 13-14 50-meter Butterfly with a time of 37.59.
The final Laker to earn a berth in the All-Star Meet was Breanna Vice (10). She placed 6th in the Girls 9-10 50-meter Breaststroke. Her 54.78 times was a full 7.34 seconds faster than her previous PR. Although Breanna Vice placed 10th in the Girls 9-10 100-meter IM, she dropped her time by over 13 seconds (13.73).
The biggest drop in a PR was by Kara Clearwater (12) in the Girls 11-12 50-meter Breaststroke. Clearwater time of 1:10.56 was 15.98 seconds better than her previous best. Eddie Clearwater also dropped his PR by over 10 seconds in the Boys 11-2 50-meter Backstroke. Eddie Clearwater’s time was 1:01.30, a PR by 11.29 seconds.
The Milstadt All-Star Meet will be held, Saturday, August 4.
