SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
The reigning state champ in the 300 hurdles, Taylor Adcock, a member of the state champion Central A&M Lady Raider track team, said no to 150 schools, including Notre Dame and Fresno State, and recently signed to run for Murray State in Kentucky.
“I like the coach and the Vet Tech program is exactly what I want,” said Adcock. “I like the peaceful atmosphere. It just seemed right.”
Her response is no surprise for a girl who is out doing chores on the farm at 5:30 every morning.
“It’s the #1 vet tech program in the country,” Adcock said.
Adcock and the Lady Raiders are a special group, but time moves on and so must they. College is next.
“In high school, it’s like, ‘Oh, its track season and we have a lot of fun.’ In college the competition is going to be a lot better.”
Murray State is Division I in the Ohio Valley Conference with Eastern Illinois.
Adcock has a 4-year academic and athletic scholarship. She has earned it.
Adcock’s time in the 300 hurdles at state last spring was just 1.2 seconds off the fastest time in the nation for 1A high schools. She set new school records in 3 consecutive meets. Through her work at sports enhancement, she is now even faster and runs about 21 miles per hour.
