Buhrmester Goes National

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Keeley Buhrmester earned another trip to the National High School Finals

Rodeo recently by qualifying at the Illinois High School Rodeo at Altamont.

To earn another trip to the National High School Finals Rodeo, Buhrmester

placed 2nd in pole bending and 4th in barrels at the IHSR, June 14-16. The

64th NHSFR will take place July 15-21 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Two other

Shelby Area youth, Douglas Rich of Cowden and Jarrett Summers of Beecher

City also qualified for the IHSR.  

Buhrmester will be a senior next fall at Shelbyville High  School.

, is the daughter of Chuck and Vickie Buhrmester.

She has competed in the Illinois High School Rodeo for two years and had

made the nationals both years. The Illinois High School Rodeo runs

concurrently with the school year. Buhrmester competed all year and

accumulated points. The Top 15 in points go to the ISHR at Altamont. The

Top 4 in each event advance to the NHSFR in Wyoming.

In addition to the IHSR, Buhrmester sows at barrel racing shows and team

penning with her family. She also rides horses for other people.

“Keeley has put many hours into her horses and a lot of hard work

maintaining her barn and getting good grades. She is hoping to attend a

rodeo college out west,” said Vickie Buhrmester, Keeley’s mother. “She is

very honored to have this opportunity to represent her state, her town,

and her school at this level of competition. She was plagued last year by

horse injuries at the national rodeo finals. She is hoping for a better

show this year.”

Buhrmester provides most of her costs to maintain her horse, travel

expense. She is accepting donations for hr trip. She will have fuel,

stalls, lodging, and meal costs. Anyone wanting to support her for the

trip to the National Rodeo may send donations to Keeley Buhrmester, RR 1,

Box 101B, Shelbyville, IL.

The NHSFR features over 1500 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian

Provinces, and Australia. It is the world’s largest rodeo. They will

compete for over $200,000 in prizes and $350,000 in college scholarship.

After two go-arounds at the rodeo, the Top 20 in each event will advance

to the finals for the championship. For more information about the

    High schools from over the state of Illinois made their way down for the first day of the girls state track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
