Stew-Stras Drops Final NTC Game To Altamont

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Stew-Stras bounced back from an upset to beat Neoga on Tuesday, winning 56-43. The Comets then played Altamont even, early and late on Friday. But, the Indians enjoyed a double-stuff creamy middle, out-scoring the Comets by 16 points in the 2nd and 3rd periods for a 14-point win, 67-53.

The Comet defense held Neoga to just 10 or 11 points in every period and that gave them the edge for the win. The Comets had an edge at the free throw, as weel, and that helped offset Neoga's advantage from the arc.

Stew-Stras took a one possession lead in the 1st, then went on a 17-11 run in the 2nd to lead by 10 at the break, 21-11.

The Comets kept pace with Neoga in the 3rd, then bumped up their lead late to win by 13.

Neoga had a trio of treys in the 1st, but Fulk and Helmuth offset that with 10 points combined, including a Helmuth triple. Helmuth nailed two more treys in the 2nd, John Luce scored twice, and Fulk a deuce and 1-of-2 at the line in the 17-10 run.

Becker led the Comets in the 3rd wth two scores as they held serve. Neoga got a couple of solo treys in the 4th, but couldn't spark a comeback. Fulk had two deuces and a 3-point play, while Becker scored twice to lead the Comets down the stretch for the win.
