SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
State-ranked Central A&M girls basketball looked like world beaters on opening Night as they scored 91 points, as they buried Neoga by 55 points, 91-36.
The Raiders scored 20+ points every quarter, including the 4th period when Neoga was shut out.
Neoga was schooled in the 1st by a 22-9 A&M run and in the 2nd by a 24-7 A&M run. Trailing by 30 points to start the 3rd period, 46-16, Neoga got some traction, scoring 20 points to A&M’s 22. The Raiders screwed down the defense again in the 4th and shut down the Neoga offense.
Genny Rose Stringer led the Raiders with 27 points, including a quartet of treys. Taylor Adcock was also in double figures, scoring 14 points, with two treys.
Three other Raiders had near double figure nights. Allie Heaton and Taylor Jordan both had eight points, four field goals each. Dooley also had eight points.
Neoga was led by Jillian Deters with 18 points, followed by Thies with eight points
Central A&M (1-0) was to play CHBC on Thursday night, then dive into the upscale Pana Tourney on Friday and Saturday.

Shelby Area Athletes Advance to Finals
Athletes from all over the state of Illinois showed up to Eastern Illinois University for the IHSA Class A Boys State Track Meet preliminaries on Thursday. The Shelby Area sent a cadre of 11 different athletes on to Saturday's state finals.

State Champ Darnell Leads Shelby
Shayla Darnell of Shelbyville won the IESA 7AA Girls State High Jump Championship, clearing 5-0, to lead Shelby Area athletes at the meet last weekend in East Peoria. Adam Miller of Pana and Luke Bowman of Sullivan also won IESA State Championships.

High schools from over the state of Illinois made their way down for the first day of the girls state track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Defending class 1A champion Central A&M sent 12 total athletes to the meet this season, and started this years’ girls track meet off well by winning 6 events individually and 1 team race.
