SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Illini Team Trail just held another Lake Shelbyville tournament on Sunday, July 22, with local anglers taking some of the top honors. Mike McGill of Findlay was on the winning team with Tony Alwart (Germantown Hills) and Greg Harkins, the Shelbyville High School wrestling coach placed 2nd with partner Mike Montgomery of Greenup.
First place winners at Shelbyville Lake on July 22 were Mike McGill, from Findley, IL and Tony Alwardt, from Germantown Hills. McGill and Alwardt caught five fish, weighing 16.54 pounds with their big bass tippping the scales at 4.31 pounds. They scored 116.54 points and that put them in 8th place in the points standings (380.63) with one Northern Division-Lake Shelbyville left before the ITT Classic.
They are sponsored by Strike King, Lake Fork Tackle, and Luckestrike. They fish with G-Loomis rods and Shimano reel with Seaguar Abrazx line.
They fished with 1/2 & 3/4 Strike King Jigs, Football head jigs, and 7" Berkley power worm. They caught their fish on points and ledges, at depths of 10 to 18 ft. The water was 85 degrees and the weather was sunny and hot. Mike and Tony fish in a 1988 Astroglass Boat with a Mercury 150 motor, Minn Kota troller, and Garmin electronics.
Second place finishers were Greg Harkins, from Shelbyville and Jack Montgomery, from Greenup. Thy caught five fish, weighing 15.99 pounds with a big bass of 4.59 pounds. Harkins and Montgomery are currently in first place in the points standings (450.95), by 20 points over Brad Peters and Josh Arso (430.69).
They are sponsored by Scale buster Lures and Siever's Equipment. They use G-Loomis rods and Shimano reel with Seaguar line. Their lure of choice today was a Scale Buster Lure Football Jig.
They caught their fish at depths of 20 to 25 feet on ledges. Greg and Jack fish in a Ranger Boat with a Yamaha motor, Minn Kota troller, and Humminbird electronics. They won the $1000 Ranger Cup for being members of the Ranger Cup.
Third place finishers were Bret Jezek, from Salem, IL and Wes Cummins, from Carlyle, IL.
Jezek and Cummins caught just four fish, but they had the Big Bass of the day. Their fish weighed in at 13.84 pounds, with a 4.93 pound Big Bass. Jesek and Cummins are currently in 3rd place in the points standings (415.93).
They fish with a Dobbins rod and Bass Pro reel with Vicious Fishing line. They caught their fish with worms at depths of 30 feet. Bret and Wes fish in a Skeeter boat with a Yamaha motor, Minn Kota troller, and Lowrance electronics.
Jezek and Wes Cummins also won the Big Bass with a weight of 4.92 lbs. They received a Dobyn's Rod Certificate for a new rod, redeemable at Prairie Outfitters in Charleston, IL.

Solid Shelby State Prelims
High schools from over the state of Illinois made their way down for the first day of the girls state track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Defending class 1A champion Central A&M sent 12 total athletes to the meet this season, and started this years’ girls track meet off well by winning 6 events individually and 1 team race.
