SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Central A&M basketball had an 18-game win streak last year, but got knocked out of the playoffs last year by Tuscola. On Wednesday night in the St. Anthony 1A Regional, the #10 team in the state was knocked out of the playoffs again, this time by NTC wild card Altamont, 56-39.
A&M laid an egg. At times this year they have brilliant, with a host scoring option from the floor, including inside the paint and outside the arc. But Altamont, which has experience playing state-ranked 2A Teutopolis and #2 state-ranked CHBC twice during the conference season. Altamont was ready for A&M and threw a wrench in the cogs of the Raiders’ well-oiled machine.
After stymieing the Raiders run-away capabilities for three quarters, the Indians blew open a 2-point game with a 28-13 run in the final 8:00. A huge difference in the game was at the line. Altamont rode the stripe victory making 20-of-31 free throws, while A&M only shot six free throws.
