SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
CHBC basketball, the #2 team in the state, smacked Dieterich upside the head early and cruised to a St. Anthony Regional semifinal win on Wednesday, 50-28.
CHBC opened the game with a 17-5 run and led by 15 at the break, 25-10. The Hornets extended their lead to 21 heading into the final frame, 41-20. They called off the dogs for the anti-climactic 4th was almost a wash and the Hornets won by 22.
Last weekend the two teams played and CHBC won 63-28. Dieterich put up more resistance in the 1st in the previous meeting, but then was swarmed by the Hornets with a 15-0 run and a 16-5 run, before calling off the dogs.
In the previous meeting, Faith Wendte and Ava Paruleski led CHBC with 16 and 13 points, with all-stater Micah Jones playing just limited minutes. On Wednesday, Bailey Doty and Courtney Myers led CHBC with 15 and 10 points with Jones playing limited minutes again with 9 points and 15 boards.
CHBC (24-3) will play a familiar foe on Friday in the championship, as Altamont upset Central A&M, 56-39. CHBC beat Altamont before Christmas, 65-44. CHBC won that game with four players in double figures in balanced scoring.
