After a big 25-0 win in their season opener, the MidWest Crush got crushed at home by the Capital City Outlaws, 56-6.

“We were not ready to hit from the beginning,” said Crush coach Stan Mars. “Our offense never could get going.”

The Outlaws lost their opener, 21-20, but they had some key players missing. They came in full of fury and took it out on the Crush.

“We had some injuries today,” said Coach Mars. “We lost three centers and two backside tackles. After that they just poured in on us.”

The Outlaws took the opening kick-off and drove for a touchdown, 7-0. On the ensuing kick-off, the Crush made a fatal mistake in the end zone. They thought it had hit out and let it lay in the end zone. The outlaws fell on it and got the touchdown. They had the extra point and led 14-0 before the Crush had ever touched the ball.

The Crush were stopped on their first drive and the Outlaws scored again, 20-0. The Crush got the ball, but fumbled the snap. Crush defensive back Anthony Pope had a play to try to turn things around, intercepting a pass and returning it to mid-field. But, the Crush couldn’t punch it in and trailed 20-0 after one period.

The Outlaws got the ball back and scored in the second quarter, 26-0. The Crush got their only score of the game on the ensuing kick-off. Zach Thrasher ran the kick-off back for a TD, 26-6. The Outlaws led 33-6 at the half. At the half the Crush had -32 yards and although quarterback Andrew cable was 3-for-4, it was for just -3 yards on passes behind the line of scrimmage that went nowhere.

The Outlaws scored on a safety to lead 35-6 to start the second half. After three quarters the Outlaws led 50-6 after scoring on their second safety. They capped their romp with another score to win 56-6. They were going in to score again as time was winding down, but the Crush stopped them. The Crush tried to air it out when they got he ball back with under a minute to play, but the pass was intercepted. From start to finish, except for one kick return, nothing worked for the Crush.

Next week, they will be chomping at the bit to beat someone as they come to Shelbyville’s Forest Park to take on the Prairie State Rebels on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Pana Pulls Away From Comets
A few years ago Stew-Stras and Pana played the second-highest scoring game in IHSA history. Stew-Stras played another historic game, a 4-OT game, the only one ever in an NTC tourney. The game at Pana on Tuesday didn't fall into an historic category like the other Comet games. The Comets lost by 20, 62-42.

Shelbyville Rams and the Central A&M Raiders are county and Okaw Valley Conference rivals that have about the same level of talent yearin, year-out. Still, the Raiders have a way of tipping the scales in their favor. Tuesday night was another example, as the Raiders won, 52-44.

Okaw Bows To Broncos In Regional
Okaw Valley had to finish out the season witout their leading scorer Sarah Burch. They entered Arcola 1A Regional on Monday night against Cerro Gordo and challenged the Broncos in three of the four quarters. That quarter hastened their exit from the season, 39-24.

Shelby Bows Out With Strong Finish
The Shelbyville Lady Rams lost to Tolono by 17 points recently in conference play. They had a shot at revenge in the opening round of the Meridian 2A Regional on Monday night and matched Tolono stride for stride in three of the four quarters, and cut the margin of defeat in half from the first meeting. Still, the Rams bowed out of the season with a 46-38 loss.

Ram Wrestling Advances 9 To Sectional
Ram wrestling got a good start to the postseason on Saturday at the Argenta 1A Regional, advancing 9 of their 12 participants on to sectional. The Rams took third place at regional with 138 points. Four Rams placed 2nd, four Rams placed 3rd, and one Ram placed 4th.
