SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Shelbyville 7th boys basketball (16-7) ran their winning streak to 9 out of 10, with a win over Mattoon on Tuesday, 38-24, prior to the Ram 8th losing, 49-22.
Ram 7th held a 3-point lead at the break in part due to a 3-point shot by Payton Howell in the 1st period, giving the Rams the margin, 12-9. That drove a stake in the ground for the Rams and from there they out-played Mattoon in the 2nd half.
Braden Young led the Ram charge in the 3rd period. He had two of their six scores from the floor, while holding Mattoon to just three scores. Tylr Gottfriedt, Turner Pullen, Daythan Summers and Brett Spears joined in the party and put the Rams up by nine heading into the 4th period, 24-15.
The Ram roll continued down the stretch. Howell hit another dagger from the arc. Gottfriedt also dialed in from long distance. Tanner Coleman scored, Pullen split a pair at the lie and sank a two and Cade Watson converted a 3-point play to extend the Ram lead to 14 by the final buzzer.
Ram balanced scoring was led by Pullen and Gottfriedt with seven points and Howell with six.
