Cowden-Herrick Volleyball Splits With Sacred Heart

Cowden-Herrick Junior High volleyball got a 2-game blowout over Sacred Heart in the 7th grade match on Tuesday, 25-11, 25-6, while the 8th grade match went to Sacred Heart in 3, 11-25, 25-23, 15-25.

Cowden-\Herrick 7th stayed undefeated in the conference on Tuesday when they outscored Sacred Heart 50 to 17 in a too-quick, 2-game set, 25-11, 25-6.

Jensyn Morrison was a double-digit performer in the match with a team-high 12 points and a team-high 7 assists. She was followed at the line by Hannah Wehrle with nine points and a team-high four aces. Bethany Hadley and Chloe Meek led at the net with two kills each.

As a team, the Hornets served up for 37 actual points with 10 aces. They swung for six kills.

"We will be getting ready for our games against Windsor on Thursday, "said C-H coach Angela Jefferies. "After that, we find ourselves refininf our skills for the upcoming regionals.

C-H stats: Jensyn Morrison 12 points, 7 assists; Hannah Wehrle 9 points, 4 aces, 2 assists; Bethany Hadley 7 points, 2 aces, 2 kills; Alicia Adams 4 points, 2 aces, 1 assist, 1 kill; Chloe Meek 3 points, 2 aces, 2 kills; Ariel Heiserman 2 assists; Dakota Fouts 1 point, 2 assists; Kasey Mueller 1 point, 1 assist, 1 kill.

The Hornet 8th were stung pretty good in game 1, then came back to win a close game 2 and force a game 3. But they got stung pretty good in the rubber game, as well.

Ariel Heiserman led a balanced attack at the line with six points, two aces. Ashley Davis had five points, two aces, Bailey Rueff served five points, Haven Lorton served four and Ashley Miller four. Lorton also led on defense with four digs and at the net with a team-high three kills.

Cowden-Herrick 7th (14-2, 11-0) and 8th (2-11, 1-7 NTC) have a big NTC showdown at Windsor on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. Hornet 7th then plays at Neoga on Saturday and theHornet 8th (2-11, 1-7 NTC) heads to the NTC 8th tourney Saturday.

    After a decent start to the season in their first two outings, the Rams stumbled at Meadowview Golf Course in Mattoon on Wednesday, losing to Mattoon and Windsor both. Shelby shot 197, while Windsor carded a 187, reversing their loss to Shelby the day before at Pana. Mattoon beat both opponents with a sizzling 165. On Thursday, the Rams improved by 18 strokes (179), but still lost to Arcola-Arthur (167), Meridian (170), and Sullivan (171) in a quad match at Moweaqua where the four teams were separated by just 12 strokes.
