SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Moulton volleyball had been on a roll. But on Tuesday at Meridian, the Rams had to settle for a split. Ram 7th won a marathon by two points in the decisive game, 25-18, 18-25, 26-24, and Ram 8th lost in straight games, 17-25, 20-25.
Ram 7th won game 1 decisively, by seven points, but the volleyball pendulum swung back in game 2 and Meridian won by seven points. It was game on in the rubber game. The battle went down to the wire with the Rams winning in OT by two.
"The game was definitely and exciting one," said Ram 7th coach Brittany Pierce. "These girls fought hard the whole way, especially in game 3. We served aggressively all evening, which helped us gain much-needed momentum. Maddie Holland had a great night at the net for us and Cailin Wilson played great defense. All of these girls showed a lot of hustle and heart. We have a big weekend ahead with the Shelbyville Invite."
Holland was the net assassin, swinging for seven kills and rising up for two blocks. That gave her a total of nine net points, a team season-high. The Rams swung for a total of 12 kills and rose up for five blocks.
Five other Rams posted double-digit stats. Jacque Johnston led at the line with a team-high 16 service points and a team-high seven aces. Torre Koontz served 13 points and five aces. Cailin Wilson served 12 points and five aces. Kary Langan served 10 points and three aces. Sydney Miller served 10 points and two aces. The Rams delivered 24 aces.

"I feel like the match was much better than what the score shows," said Ram 8th coach Jill Miller. "We had several good rallies. We just couldn't get on a roll. We have to get more aggressive to win a match like this. We are progressing, but need to get stronger at the service line and the net."
