Shelby Shuts Out Windsor

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Shelbyville's senior pitching star, "Amazing" Grace Moll, struck out 12 batters and the Ram hit crew

knocked out 14 hits as they shut out Windsor in the season opener, 6-0.

As usual, Moll held the opposition down from the mound and allowed her teammates to peck away and then cash in late. Moll led the hit squad going 4-for-5 with a double and two runs. Catcher Cinnae Martin was back with a vengeance after a year off and hit 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Third baseman Rachel Fox also had a multiple hit day, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Five other Rams hit safely to start the season. First baseman Madison Boone was 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run. Second baseman Kayla Brachbill was 1-for-4, Center fielder Brandi Smith was 1-for-4, left fielder Jensen Cloe was 1-for-4, and right fielder Lindsey Eigsti was 1-for-3 with a run.

The Rams got on the board early, when Moll led off the game with a double. Martin followed with a single. Boone reached on an error and Moll scored, 1-0. Boone stole 2nd and Fox reached on an error, but the Rams left the bases loaded.

Windsor ace Lindsay Floyd escaped a rally, but the Devils couldn't capitalize. Moll rang up the first three Devil batters, two on full counts.

Lindsey Eigsti drew a 1-out walk in the 2nd and Martin hit a 2-out RBI double, sending Eigsti home, 2-0.

The Rams retired the Devils in order again in the 2nd. Fox threw out the first batter, 3rd to 1st, and Moll gunned down the next two batters.

Floyd threw her third strikeout to start the 3rd and threw out the next batter. But with two down, the Devils booted a ball and Fox reached base again.Smith singled and an error on the play sent Fox home. Floyd threw another K, but she was down 3-0.

Moll faced the bottom of the order in the 3rd and KO'd all three batters throwing all strikes.

Eigsti led off the 4th with a hit and Moll followed with a hit. Eigsti was forced out at 3rd on the next hit ball. Another fielder's choice kept the Rams in check, then Floyd threw her fifth K.

After three perfect innings, Moll allowed some base runners. Dani Bell was thrown out on a ground ball, then Bayleigh Tabor drew a walk and stole 2nd. Moll threw a K, but with two outs she gave out a free pass to Whitney Kuhl. With 2 on, 2 out, Moll won a 3-2 count for her 10th strikeout.

Shelby had base runners again in the 5th, but couldn't get them in. Brachbill led off with a single, followed by a Fox single. They advanced to 3rd and 2nd on a passed ball and had ducks on the pond with no outs. Floyd bore down at that point and rang up the next batter. On the next hit ball, Floyd snagged it an threw home to get Brachbill trying to score. Floyd KO'd the next batter and got out of the inning, still down 3-0.

The Devils were able to get a piece of Moll's pitches again in the 5th, just not enough to reach base. Moll threw her 11th KO, then threw out a batter on a comebacker to the mound. Fox threw out the next batter 3rd to 1st to bring on the 6th.

Floyd had tried to hold back the leak in the dike, but in the 6th inning it burst. Moll led off with a single and stole 2nd. Martin singled again. Moll and Martin advanced to 3rd and 2nd on an error. With two on and nobody out, Boone slapped an RBI single, 4-0. Martin went to 3rd on a wild pitch. Floyd answered with a strikeout and caught a pop-out. With two on and two out and only one run in, Floyd couldn't get out of this jam.

Boone went to 3rd on a wild pitch. Martin scored, 5-0. Fox then reached base for the third time, this time with an RBI single, scoring Boone. Shortstop Dani Bell threw out the next batter to get out of the 6th, but down 6-0.

Moll didn't fan anybody in the 6th. She got the #9 hitter to pop out at 3rd. Moll threw out the next batter on a ground ball and Fox gunned down the next batter.

The Rams got another hit in the 7th, giving them at least one hit and two base runners in every inning. Jensen Cloe led off with a single, but wqas caught stealing. With two outs, Moll smacked her fourth hit and ended up on 2nd. The next batter flew out to right and Windsor was down to their last at bat down. 6-0.

Moll retired the Devils. She threw the first batter on a comebacker. She threw out the second batter on a comebacker. Then she KO'd the last batter on four pitches.
