Cowden-Herrick volleyball opened their season on the road and opened with a sweep, beating Teutopolis varsity, 25-14, 19-25, 25-15, and the Teutopolis JV, 27-25, 25-22.
The Hornets started the first game of the season swarming out the hive and attacking Teutopolis on their home court, 25-14. T’Town recovered and held the Hornets off in game 2, but couldn’t keep swatting in game and Cowden-Herrick stung the Shoes on opening night.
Payton Jones was the sharpest stinger for the Hornets, swinging for seven of the team’s 17 kills in the 3-game set. Mackenzie Morrison has three kills and middle hitter Micah Jones had four kills and a team-high four blocks. Morrison also added a block and led the team defense with seven digs.
Alex Russell led the Hornets at the serving line with 14 points and three aces, while Jones served up a team-high four aces. They had nine aces as a team. Russell and Emily Wheeler combined to dish out 16 assists for the 17 kills. They team had 20 digs.
Cowden-Herrick (1-0, 1-0 NTC) play Thursday at home vs. Ramsey.
