Windsor High School Cheerleaders placed third at the IHSA sectional and advanced to the Small School Competitive Cheerleading State Meet on Friday.
Windsor scored 77.54 points with only a .5 deduction and placed 15th in the state in a field of 25 teams . Only the top ten advanced to Saturday's competition. The last Widsor cheer team to qualify for state was in 2005, coached by Pam Howard.
Freshmenmembers of the current Blue Devil squad were part of the IESA State Champions last year in Cheer and runner-ups in Routine.
The high school squad performed a 3:0), a minute 30 is accompanied by music and the rest is cheers and stunts.
"We were disappointed not to make the top ten," said Devil coach Beth Williamson. "But, we placed 3rd at sectional and 15th at state. I am very, very proud of the squad. They worked really hard and we were competing against schools with up to 600 enrollment and out enrollment is 131."
South Fork placed first at sectional and they placed third at state. Paris placed second at sectional and they placed fifth at state. Windsor beat ten other schools at state, including St. Anthony, Nashville, New Berlin, Sherrard, Bunker Hill, Benton, Riverton, Williamsville, Paxton and Dwight.
Members of the Devil squad are: Amanda Tucker, Alexis Schubert, Erin Risley, Danielle Bell, Charley Bailey, Jennifer Bullock, Barbara Blackburn, Sarah Curtis, Tierra Becker, Taylor Williamson, Corri Boehm, and Megan Powers. They are coached by Coach Beth Williamson and Kim Bullock, assistant coach.
