SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Cowden-Herrick took care of business again, finishing strong at the wire and beating Ramsey, 64-54.
They started slow and were down three after the 1st, 11-8, But a 23-point 2nd quarter boosted the Hornets into the lead at the break, 31-27. The 3rd was about a draw with the Hornets still up by a possession, 47-44.
Still anybody’s game, the Hornets went on a 17-10 run in crunch time to cash in the double-digit win.
Luke Moore and Ethan Schoonover were Butch and Sundance in this game. The two gunslingers had 20-point games.
They were fueled by a quartet of 3-pointers from each of them. Schoonover had 23 points and 12 were from beyond the arc. Moore had 21 points and he had a dozen from long range.
The Hornets out-shot Ramsey 10 to 2 from the arc, a 30-6 advantage from artillery range.

Solid Shelby State Prelims
High schools from over the state of Illinois made their way down for the first day of the girls state track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Defending class 1A champion Central A&M sent 12 total athletes to the meet this season, and started this years’ girls track meet off well by winning 6 events individually and 1 team race.
