SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Central A&M Lady Raider basketball has started strong, being undefeated after their opening game in the upscale Pana Tourney. A&M schooled Neoga by about 60 points to open the season. They A&M knocked off CHBC by ten.
At Pana on Friday, the Raiders outplayed Rochester in the 4th period after a see-saw three periods to win by six, 53-47.
A&M weathered the 1st period of Rochester defense and were down just two points, 8-6. A&M then shook off their opponents in the 2nd with a 21-9 run. Then came the rollercoaster 3rd. Rochester answered with a 13-5 run.
A&M led by just two points to open the 4th period, 32-30. The 4th was a jailbreak as both teams put on an offensive show, scoring 38 points between them. However, A&M free throws tipped the scales as they out-scored Rochester 21-17 down the stretch, for the 6-point win.
Rochester had one more field goal than the Raiders and three of those were 3-pointers, giving Rochester a 43 to 38 edge from the floor. However, A&M shot 12 more free throws, making 15-of-22. Rochester made just 4-of-10, giving A&M an 11-point edge at the stripe and the 6-point advantage on the scoreboard.
Senior guard Allie Heaton led the Raiders with 13 points, followed by Sarah Bailey with 10 and Genny Rose Stringer with eight in a stair-step scoring for A&M. Taylor Jordan had seven, Ryan Dooley with six, and Taylor Adcock with five.

High schools from over the state of Illinois made their way down for the first day of the girls state track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Defending class 1A champion Central A&M sent 12 total athletes to the meet this season, and started this years’ girls track meet off well by winning 6 events individually and 1 team race.
