SHELBYVILLE, IL: February is National “Go Red for Women” Month which pays tribute to women's heart health. Women are naturally wonderful caregivers as daughters, wives, and mothers; however, they often neglect their own care. In the spirit of Go Red for Women, this month Shelby Memorial Hospital's (SMH) Girls Night Out will focus on cardiac care for the ladies in our community. Girls Night Out will be held on Tuesday, February 26, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Shelbyville's Visitor's Center, off of Route 16, just east of the main dam. All women in the community are invited.
Featured guest speaker at Girls Night Out, Dr. Anuradha Kolluru, Cardiologist from Decatur Memorial Hospital, will speak about heart health. Dr. Kolluru will talk about the impact of smoking, stress and high blood pressure, and will review the benefits of a healthy low-carb diet and regular exercise. She will describe the warning signs and symptoms of a heart disease in women and what signals one should not ignore. She will explain what to do until help arrives, what the golden hour really is and keys to surviving a cardiac event.
Our second speaker, Sheli Evans, RN and Manager of the Emergency Room, Shelby Memorial Hospital knows that providing excellent care to cardiac patients is not something new to SMH. However, she will explain how the Prairie STAT Heart Program has streamlined SMH's approach to a cardiac emergency. Evans stated, “I believe the success of the STAT Heart Program here at SMH is due to the tremendous patient care team that we have. All of the staff from each department understands the importance of the work that we do and strives to always provide the best emergency care possible.”
Guest speaker, Jack Harvey will share his story as a heart attack survivor. Harvey had a heart attack in 2011 and knows first hand how important quality emergency care is, including the STAT Heart Program.
Those in attendance may receive a free blood pressure screening at the door and may enjoy free paraffin hand therapy before the presentation begins. A certificate redeemable for one free cholesterol panel screening at SMH will be given to each woman in attendance. While waiting, you may enjoy a healthy snack and have a chance to win a wonderful door prize.
