SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
The rain may have stopped some of the festivities Friday night, but the Scarecrow Daze activities were in full swing on Saturday.
“Although the rain put a damper on some of it, Saturday was a success,” said organizer Dr. Katie Harley.” There were a lot of people up and down the streets and businesses got a lot of foot traffic, too.”
The hourlong parade traveled down a spectator lined route and brought the people back into the downtown area where they could visit the vendors and crafters, make scarecrows, or participate in contests
“Forest Parker at the beer tent seemed to be very popular,” Harley said.
The Friday evening balloon flight and the Saturday morning task flight were canceled due to weather conditions. The balloon glow Saturday evening attracted many enthusiasts and the Sunday morning task flight continued as planned.
“Overall it was a good event. Despite the weather people still came out,” said organizer Kevin Bernson. “The sponsors were pleased that they got one flight it.
“The glow was a tough thing for some of the pilots, but the did their very best to give the people something,” Bernson said. “They always enjoy the people and the company.”
He added that $1000 was raised for the Shelby County Rescue squad.
Nine balloons attended the weekend event.
