Moweaqua Pow Wow Days Begin June 7

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — The first community celebration of 2012 will begin June 7 in Moweaqua.

The Pow Wow Days runs from Thursday, June 7, to Sunday, June 10, and has activities for all ages. All events will be held in the city park.

Royalty contests will be held Thursday and Friday evenings with Little Miss (ages 5-9), Jr. Miss (ages 10-14) and Miss Pow Wow Queen (ages 15-18) held Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.  The Baby contest will be held at 6 p.m. Friday and is open to children ages 0-4 years.  

Registration forms for all royalty contests are available at Ayars State Bank, Dewitt Savings Bank or Davis Hardware and must be turned in by June 1.

Pow Wow Days is also filled with music.

Local country music talent Juston VanCleve will perform from 7:30 - 9 p.m.  Thursday. VanCleve has won the Colgate Country Showdown, 95Q's Country Idol, has been the opening act for Aaron Tippin, and has won a variety of singing competitions. He has regular shows in surrounding areas and his fan base continues to grow.

T&J Tributes will perform from 7:30 - 10 p.m. Friday with a show that features rock “oldies” such as “Sherry”, “Blue Moon”, and “Great Balls of Fire”.

The Decatur Park Singers and Young Park Singers will perform from 7-9 p.m. Saturday. The organization celebrates its 40th season with a diverse group of college-age singers who celebrate the arts through uplifting music and choreographed shows. They are an annual favorite at the Moweaqua Pow Wow Days.

Saturday is filled with activities beginning with the 5K Fun Run/Walk at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the High School. The Run will begin in the park.

The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the High School, continuing through town and returning to the High School.

Grand Marshals of the parade are Ken and Vivian McLeod. Ken has been active in the community as a Cub Scout leader and Scout Master for the Boy Scouts; serving on several boards including the Moweaqua Cemetery, Ambulance, and St. Francis DeSales. He also represents his church in the Moweaqua Ministerial Association. He is currently an EMT, member of the American Legion, VFW, and KC. He is a Vietnam War veteran.

Other Saturday activities include children's games, kiddie tractor race, the CAM Raiderettes (5-5:30 p.m.), Dance Station (5:30-6:15 p.m.) and Plate auction (6:30 p.m.). TMT D.J. will finish the day's events from 9:15-11 p.m.

Sunday's events include a car and antique tractor shows with judging beginning at noon. A talent contest will be held from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Throughout the event, there will be carnival rides for all ages by Big M Amusements. Advance ride tickets are 10 for $20 and are available from Moweaqua merchants.
